Artist Statement

The artistic practice of Filipa Marte revolves around the themes of time, rhythm and sound, the key lexicon of her plastic language. The artist works in various media such as sculpture, photography, video, sound and installation.

Filipa Marte has found in glass sculpture, in ceramics or in fabric, and in the photography-sound composite ideal supports to amplify her approach to time. Based on a continuous research on oriental cultures, her body of work approaches time in the sculptural process as a ritual. The triad time-sound-image in which she works considers different times involved in the sculptural work.

Her layer by layer approach becomes perceptible in the resulting organic forms, and where the relationship between the work and nature, and the interconnection of both with the viewer, are fundamental. Thus, she approaches the ancestral language and the connection with the earth, in order to materialize his transversal option of living in harmony with nature. Focusing on the relationship between contemporary art and nature, Filipa Marte intends to take an active role in the promotion of more sustainable artistic practices. Her path combines theory with research and resorts to various research methodologies -among which artistic -, to deepen critical thinking.
